Prevacid: Case Study

May 3rd, 2010

My name is Julie Bailey; I am a 52 year old, white, female rresiding in Delaware, Maryland.  I was diagnosed with Erosive esophagitis in May, 2008. The doctor said that the condition occurred because the acidic activity in my stomach and the esophagus had gone from bad to worse. The backing up of the gastric acid into my esophagus for a long time had caused the abrasion of the lining cells in my esophagus.

I was indeed experiencing irritation and swelling of the throat, and heartburn for some time before May 2008, but had been postponing a visit to the hospital thinking that it is just a symptom of aging, and probably because I was a smoker. In May of 2008 the swelling of the throat started more vigorously, and I couldn’t sleep properly at night. My grandson who came to visit me on his summer vacation realized that I had some problems with my health and took me to the hospital.

The doctor prescribed antibiotics. I had to take two capsules a day along with my diet supplement. I got into the medication for a couple of months. Initially, the intensity of chest pain was getting lower. I no longer had difficulty sleeping. However, after June, the problem started again. Then I went to see the doctor once more, and he said that since the condition had gone undiagnosed for a long time, antibiotics had become ineffective. Then I was prescribed another medication and asked to resort to some natural remedies. Since then I have been changing both doctors’ and medications, desperately praying God for a miracle.

When ginger, raw honey and milk had become a part of my regular life, I discovered prevacid last year. I was skeptic at first. I thought it was just another drug that makes counterfeit promises.

In a counseling session with the doctor, I enquired if prevacid was alright for me. I was required to do certain tests and then prescribed a combination of prevacid and antibiotics. The doctor told me to adhere strictly to the dose. I have been on prevacid medication for some time now, and I feel l have again regained my freedom. I am not confined by my condition anymore. My grandson comes to visit me during the summer and we have a good time together. Prevacid, for me is a life-saver.
